And you stand here [into] your house….
This music video taught me the power of YouTube and/or future websites – hell, the web in general. I shot this video for Melanie (Tender Forever) years back. I had hoped to include some animation to interact with her (think Mary Poppins). A year went by and nobody would do the animation for me. Finally I thought “f–k it – I’m finishing this thing.” I grabbed a video camera and shot some odd stop motion of colorful letters spelling out Tender Forever. I f–ked with the footage (all of it shot in my old crappy apartment in Northwest Portland) – changed the color, slowed it down, sped it up…and then decided it was done. I posted it to YouTube – a year after initially shooting it – and was quickly overwhelmed by the positive response and growing # of views. Sure this thing doesn’t have a million views – but just the fact that over 29,000 people have viewed it (when you grow up in a small town of 3,000, well 29,000 is a lot) is candy to me.
I believe it’s Melanie’s performance that really makes this work…she has a way to look into a camera lens and reach people miles away – touch their hearts. If you haven’t seen it – give it a click and tell me if you agree.
