WE ALL LOVE SOAP OPERAS TV shows that touch us / entertain us / thrill us…shows like LOST or SIX FEET UNDER (television dramas with ensemble casts). They are no different than daily soap operas. No more believeable. As over the top. But they don’t stink of cheese like daily soaps. And that is because the characters are the blood of these shows. If we believe the character – if we care about the character – we can go along with everything else. I mean, I’m sure this is how my grandma feels when she watches General Hospital. She’s followed the characters and now she cares about them. The same thing happened to me with LOST – half way through the third season I couldn’t take it anymore – the thing had come to a hault. So I quit. And ended up missing a bunch of fantastic episodes that soon followed. I had to go back. I cared about the characters. So I’ve been catching back up via Blu-Ray discs from Netflix. Yes, the show is a bit of a headache. The writers will never be able to fully dig themselves out of the holes they dig – but it’s fun to see it all go down. Here’s a TV show that asks more questions than it answers and continues to unravel and get more complicated as it goes along. I’d like to see some more content like this. To get people thinking. To make TV or film or whatever – more like reading. Other thoughts….Think about how hard it is to ‘maintain the spell’ to keep people interested in something for even two hours (for a movie) – now try to do it for many many hours. This is a credit to the writers, producers, directors, and actors of ensemble dramas that audiences get hooked on. PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD EPISODES OF LOST SEASON 4 WHEN IT PREMIERES. SUPPORT THE WRITERS WHO WILL NOT RECEIVE ROYALTIES FROM YOUR DOWNLOADS. Even if you sometimes hate these writers for not answering your questions, be loyal to them for entertaining you.

Briana came up with the idea of ‘boardsandbuffet’ in which we invite guests over to our home to play boardgames – with one catch: they have to bring a dish (we provide the endless flow of red and white wine). Here is a snap from the end of the last ‘boardsandbuffet.’
