Check out these covers my friend Jeremy has been doing in LA.
It started when I asked him to recreate The Pussycat Dolls’ DONTCHA and send it to me as an instrumental, so our friend Jennifer Folker could sing over it.
I wondered how it would sound slowed down and trippy* – he wondered how the hell he could do it (there’s not a lot to the original DONTCHA).
After he sent it to me, I asked him if he could quickly add his own vocals onto it so I would have reference of where Jennifer’s should go. When I got the MP3 in my inbox, his voice and the song sounded…well amazing. Check it out.
*Daniel Riddle and I were talking about doing a slowed down version of 50 Cent years ago when IN DA CLUB was everywhere. So mutual credit should be shared for this idea.
This real?

I was thinking that my current set up – video projector, 84″ inch screen and copy of Mario Kart Wii was pretty sweet until my co-worker Chris Soli sent me this video.

April 29, 2008 at 9:40 am | In News | 3 CommentsI should have had my camera on me so I could show you an image of beauty.
Last night Briana and I had dinner at Dave and Paddy’s house and met the boys from CUT COPY who officially have no ego. Super nice guys. They live in Melbourne – a place I’ve visited once (useless fact: in Austrailia Burger Kings are called Hungry Jack’s).

Later in the night we went to Doug Fir for the show – and towards the end of the set the entire sold out crowd was jumping up and down in perfect unison, while brighly colored lights flashed behind our new Austrailian friends. It’s something you would simply just have had to of seen (like Jeff shotgunning a Red Bull backstage afterward), because the crowd looked like one wave of energy (I’m not getting new age-y on you…I’m just saying there wasn’t one lazy person in the crowd).
Plus I found it quite awesome that all of those people and all that energy was in one room in Portland, Oregon on a Monday night.
It was like a mini-Coachella.
So let me get this straight

The ad agency for POST-ITS creates this in March 2008:
A little ironic right?
I’m not saying they ripped her off. Maybe they happened to have the same idea at the same time and lots of creatives everywhere are thinking about how cool it would be to wear an outfit made of sticky notes.
Ok sure…it happens all the time
Mae Shi do this first
25,000 people watch on youtube
Vampire Weekend and/or some directors are “inspired” by their video and make this
2,227,043 people watch
I remember having a conversation with Shayla Hason – being fearful that say Urban Outfitters would steal my Octicorn or something. And she basically said that artists always have to be a few steps ahead – making the next thing.
A few emails went around about the sticky note situation between myself, Melanie, and a few others and in the end a guy named Ted Passon replied all and said “That’s OK. We just make something else super awesome.”
I like that.
it was a nice weekend

Healdsburg, California you will always be in my heart. It is here that my dad spoke his first word (‘quack’), and where my grandparents still live. The town has changed a lot over the years. Originally working class, Healdsburg has recently had a yuppie transformation that I feel guilty for enjoying.

Best candy store I’ve ever been to. (CHECK IT)

Great shopping, close to amazing wineries, only 90 minutes from San Fran, and my grandparents live there. Perfect combo.
