DJ IZM jumps on it

Portland’s DJ IZM has already mixed and mashed the new Ratatat track Mirando into what he’s calling Mirando’s Hawt. Give it a spin.

Song hosted by Visceral Transport.

Briana and I first saw The Duke Spirit at Coachella in 2006. Great band. But something caught our eye. The lead singer happened to look a lot like our friend Gretchen – an actress/performer friend of ours from Portland, OR.

Yesterday I remembered that the band was playing a show at Doug Fir, so I emailed Gretchen:

If you run into your clone on the street does her head explode?
Let’s find out tonight at the Doug Fir.

I received a text message later in the evening saying that she and Matt were coming. We went to the show (band was great as expected – picture Bjork in a rock band with a ton of soul). At one point Gretchen was looking at the stage and said “she is so cute.” I responded “You’re such a narcissist.”

Afterwards Briana snuck us backstage so Gretchen and lead singer Leila could come face to face:

It was wierd.

seriously if gretchen was wearing eye liner and looking straight ahead...

Here’s a little video clip:

Luckily nobody’s head exploded.

Now let’s play Leila or Gretchen? GO:

Ok nevermind. This is just creepy.

Dave Allen started a trend. If a band is coming to your town – make them feel welcome. Dave and his wife Patty made awesome tacos and invited their friends CUT COPY over for dinner before their show at Doug Fir a few months back. Briana and I had such a great time that she decided to keep the tradition going. So she invited Nicole Atkins and her band The Sea over for an italian feast. We projected Daft Punk’s ELECTRORAMA on the wall, drank a selection of wines, beers, and kid-like cocktails (tang and vodka anyone?) and got to know each other. A video of the night is up here.

We hope to host more of these in the future and invite more Portlanders over to hang with their favorite bands and eat good food.

Chauncey says, "I don't get attached to performers. They always leave for the open road."

Something has arrived from Mark Fenske.

WHEN YOU GET BIG, KEEP TAKING RISKS….example:

My friend Jeff just told me about this. I somehow missed it. I think it’s pretty cool that the entire band is absent – and it’s just Edge sitting there in front of the visuals. It’s unfortunate that I became a U2 fan (though only mildly) AFTER the two tours (Zooropa and Pop) that might have been the most visual and visceral in pop concert history. More concept concerts please.
(Yep. Kanye I know you are doing this – no need to get pissed on your blog that I didn’t mention you)

Please don’t water down Spike Jonze’s upcoming film adaptation of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.

Spike has a ton of fans and we’re all going to pay to see his vision.

A lot of us will also buy the film on Blu-Ray.

But not if you f–k it up.

Don’t f–k it up.

Sincerely,

Justin J. Lowe

Got the new Iphone this weekend and somehow spent most of it, playing with it. This is exactly why I wasn’t going to get one! I will say this is the most futuristic piece of technology to come out in a long while. Since we’re not going to get that hovercraft skateboard from Back to the Future 2, the Iphone will have to do. Especially with the free application Shazam. Never wonder what a song is again.
