Overheard at Wieden+Kennedy

“I love this place, I want to work here. Do you have to go to college to work here?”
“Yeah you have to have a degree in marketing or graphic design.”
Or you could skip college, become a host at Pizzicato, meet someone who produces videos, start editing for him, have him call a colleague, get an interview with the editorial department, start freelancing, make an impression on people, and get hired to work in the audio/video department, occasionally throwing 15 minute dance parties around the office, and talking creative directors into sending you to London. A couple years later you could get promoted back into the editorial department where you continue to hone your editing skills, while directing music videos and short films on the side.

Portland’s King Black Acid have a great track on the soundtrack for the new Underworld film. Check it out online – or better yet buy the album from Itunes.
Sampled or lifted?

Today I’ve been preparing some music for a radio show I’ll be hosting tomorrow. I’ve just gotten back from DC and will be on the air talking about my trip – including both the inauguration as well as the go go music that Chuck Brown and others started back in the day. You can tune in here to listen live (should be around 12:10pm/West Coast on Tuesday, Jan. 27th). While we’re on the subject – in doing my research – I discovered a recently unreleased track by Trouble Funk called Jam On It. If you listen to the last 10 seconds of the Itunes preview – you may notice something familiar. It sounds like the Inspector Gadget theme. Was it lifted from Trouble Funk for the cartoon? I can’t find any info on this online – but am curious. Help me out.

January 25, 2009 at 8:20 pm | In News | Leave a CommentToday at a restaurant I’m too embarrassed to admit I was eating at, our waitress complimented Briana on her hair, recently dyed to make her a copper-ish looking redhead.
A few moments later, as she was checking on the table behind us, I heard two guys attempting to flirt or perhaps mock our waitress calling her a WILF. There was an awkward pause, then one of the guys said “What? [The W is for] Waitress” as if there was no problem with implying that he’d like to f–k her. She walked off and I heard, “I don’t think she got it. Maybe we should explain it to her when she gets back.”
Or maybe you guys should not sexually harass someone trying to do their job.

January 24, 2009 at 8:27 pm | In News | Leave a CommentWe were waiting in the cold for a good view of Obama on the first leg of the parade route, in DC. Some cops who looked like they had been pulled straight out of Fargo, were talking to the crowd and said “Man you guys are a lot nicer then the crowds at the RNC. They were throwing stuff at us.” There was a long pause then he continued “and they weren’t nice things!”
*Though I find this very funny, I must say that these cops were very professional at their job. When the parade started the jokes were over, as they scanned the crowd and created a human wall that nobody wise would consider rushing.
