if it’s not real, it’s evil

corn laughing all the way to the bank

Today I mocked up some evil faces on various vegetables…you know, because genetically modified foods are evil. I sent them to a couple friends with the subject PROOF THAT GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS ARE EVIL. I then said that I was starting a viral campaign and asked what they thought? One friend, not realizing I was joking, actually responded with a critique:

I like the corn the best, its direct and humorous and the image feels like its documenting with kind of a national geographic like authority, your intervening and saying question what’s accepted as truth. This also kind of works with the root and the sugar. The Banana and Lays are interesting but a bit trickery, these objects are photographed in a manner that references advertising/product photography, this is a bit more loaded because cynicism is inherent to this style – its obvious we should not trust advertising so you could be cribbing on a cliche, but there is potential here. The tomato is the least successful because the image feels like a stock concept.

I think there is power in finding images that present themeless as truth then exposing that truth as a faulty assumption some how. You have to pick hard targets, McDonalds would be easy – your moms garden would be hard.

evil!

Zia pre-show

Zia hangs, right before walking out on the stage. Well. There wasn’t a stage. Which made the show especially cool. Like a living room packed with haircuts.

Beck’s new site and this accoustic track of his.

Courtney’s one sentence movie reviews over at the Dandies’ site. For The Wrestler he wrote, “The only thing more depressing than a movie about a guy who fucks everything up is a movie about a guy who fucks everything up then dies.”

Standing up for the public option here.

The first 30 seconds of the new Jay Z video before it gets too cutty.

Knowing that Exxon fucked up again.

And now a question:

Did this ARG just run out of money? Was it for a product or just an art project?
